October is my favorite month of the year. The air is cooler, the days are shorter, and I can enjoy the warmth of a sweater in the evening. This year I am especially appreciative after our long hot summer. October is also pumpkin month and this is my pumpkin.... painted yesterday. I shopped for just the right pumpkins (at Walmart) to paint and display, also to use for a class lesson.

Isn't it funny how some inanimate objects have personality? I think an artichoke is an elegant thing so I thought it deserved to be featured on a gold trimmed, china plate. The fun in creating this piece was trying to pump up as many terrific color choices as I could. The other fun was eating my subject matter when I was finished.

I recently visited the always beautiful northwest coast and found many, many scenes that needed painting. This one is of the salt flats on Bainbridge Island (Puget Sound). The marsh grasses thrive in the salty water and birds are present in abundance. I spent a few hours there in absolutely perfect weather.

This is a beautiful Lake near Ophir Pass in Colorado. A fun place to stop after jeeping over the pass. The colors of the lake are brilliant turquoise because of the minerals in the water. What fun to use thalo green for a change!

Here is a little gem I created especially for recent show in Taos, NM. You can't travel in the Southwest without enjoying heaps of chili peppers on your meals. Most places will ask if you want red or green chilies and occasionally you will hear someone throw in the option of "Christmas" meaning you can enjoy a little of both.

This piece is single matted with a 3 inch, white mat in a simple, white, metal frame. I'd love to ship it your way and find it a new home. I'm sure it would look awesome in a bright kitchen or dining room.

We are fortunate in Oklahoma to have the Tall Grass Prairie Preserve. It is a beautiful place to paint regardless of the season. I had the opportunity recently to paint there with an artist friend and we had a very good day with almost perfect weather. Some of the wildflowers are blooming and the distant views were spectacular. Great time.

I have forever loved the California beaches. This beach is just north of Carpinteria and offers a bit of solitude, nice for strolling and/or painting. On this perfect day, I watched the shorebirds dashing in an out of the changing tide looking for tidbits left by the sea. The smell of salt and sand and seaweed was in the air. I am
saving this memory for a day
when I really need it.
